Cornea Proteomics

Ebbe Toftgaard Poulsen, Thomas F.Dyrlund

The cornea is the only transparent connective tissue of the body, and, in contrast to other connective tissues it has a highly ordered collagen matrix responsible for the transparent properties. Owing to its transparency the cornea are exposed to very high levels of UV-radiation. We are studying the proteome of the human cornea and the mechanisms involved in corneal homeostasis and development of opacifications such as accumulation and deposits of TGFBIp in corneal dystrophies and cellular haze during wound healing.
